New Feature Implemented in iOS 7

For every new iOS come new features that are usually unveiled. Its a tradition that has been since the iPhone debuted.
iOS 5 came with Notification center switch along with Siri and some other features, iOS 6 came with Apple 3D maps, Siri enhancements, Do no Disturb features amongst others.

iOS 7 wont be left out and recent news reaching us is that Apple is bringing the popular AirDrop feature found in Mac OS X to iOS 7 along with Vimeo and Flickr integration.

What immediately means is that iPhone users will now be able to transfer files between iPhones and Mac using wireless file sharing. This would make sharing of files between iPhones and Mac a whole easier than it used to be.
This is of course a great idea and we have not totally gotten all the info on this app and its extended features.

However, with the WWDC 2013 kicking off on Monday next week, we are sure of seeing what would be unveiled for the new iOS 7.

What are your expectations and things you want implemented in iOS 7? Let us know by dropping a comment.

Olympus E P1 Compact Interchangeable Lens Camera

Has someone come up with an acronym for the compact cameras with interchangeable lens? Maybe, say, DILC? Because the world has now another of such product in the market. Olympus PEN E-P1 follows Panasonic Lumix G1 and GH1 to be the next compact camera using the Micro Four-Thirds lens mount.

I had a quick play at Playworks/T3 office, recently shifted to Sunshine Plaza. Nifty biometric fingerprint security, so no worries about losing the pass, unless...

Generally, it feels like a compact camera, with the advantages of manual lens control and faster AF and shutter response, no different from the Lumix G1 that I reviewed extensively a few months back. The E-P1 supports up to 6400 ISO, and the highlights look rather clean. Whats lacking is the articulated screen and built-in flash. What I like is the Art Filter mode which you can select effects like Pop Art, Soft Focus, Pale & Light Color, Light Tone, Grainy Film or Pin Hole to capture great arty images. It makes image capturing a lot more fun.

I think compact interchangeable lens camera is the way to go. You get the compactness of a digicam and the responsiveness of a DSLR. The price may be prohibitive since a compact digicam costs half the price, and the E-P1 is priced not any lower than the lowest-end DSLR. So for now, such format camera will be a companion for the serious photographers and early adopters.

Quick specs:
- 12.3 megapixels Live MOS sensor
- 3" LCD screen
- HD (720p) video recording
- 3 fps

App Engine Case Studies

Posted by Paul McDonald, App Engine Team

Over the past few months weve heard some amazing stories detailing
just how easy it is to create scalable web applications on App Engine. Weve
invited a few developers to participate in some case study videos and
tell you more about their experience with App Engine.

BuddyPoke!
BuddyPoke! is an OpenSocial app running on
MySpace, Orkut, and Hi5. It has scaled to nearly 30M daily
pageviews on App Engine.

"App
Engine has been a godsend in terms of our scalability...we saw a 8x
jump in installs overnight and we are now serving 12 million users!" -
Dave Westwood, BuddyPoke!

Pixverse (PixChat)
PixChat, recently acquired by Hi5, lets you chat with friends
across the web within your Hi5 profile page.

"Running our app on App Engine was really easy...the whole porting effort took only 3 hours." - Charles Ying, Pixverse

Hyperic (CloudStatus)

CloudStatus monitors the health and performance of major cloud
computing platforms like App Engine and Amazon Web Services.

These are but three examples of the many applications that have
been developed on App Engine.  Are you interested in sharing your
experience?  If so wed love to hear from you, tell us your story in our developer forum.

Google Latitude FTW

Since the launch of Google Latitude in February, many of you have come up with fun and creative ways to use it. Wed like to highlight some of your bright ideas, then share our own idea for creating a message using the icons on the map.

First up, we were totally revved by the story of Garage 419s do-it-yourself race from Manhattan, NY, to Washington D.C., using a plane, a train, an automobile, and various mobile devices. These guys took advantage of Latitude to keep tabs on the race in progress and make adjustments in their strategy and speed. We wont spoil the results, since you can watch the video for yourself. We didnt have racing in mind when we built the app, but who are we to argue with high-tech games?

Next we stumbled on a safari hunt in Glasgow and London. Following clues from Twitter and Latitude, pub crawlers were invited to track down two red lions (the mascots of the Whyte and Mackay brand) that were roaming between various bars and pubs in the two cities.

The Blogger grapevine also brought us this tale of a San Francisco resident who accidentally left his Nokia E71 behind in a cab one night. After remembering that Latitude was switched on, he rushed to his computer, only to find that his phone had already made it to Boston. "Maybe this post will get picked up," he blogged, "go viral and find its way to the person who has my phone." So far as we know that hasnt happened yet, but well echo Nicks plea: "[I]f you do read this, Mister Whoever-found-my-phone, do the right thing."

So what have we done lately? Well, if you need a creatively geeky way to send someone a message, weve got just the ticket. Spell it out with Google Latitude!

Weve also made it easy for you to customize your own video, so try writing your own message and pass the video along to a friend. Were very excited by these creative ways of using Latitude, and we look forward to seeing more. If you come up with one yourself, be sure to let us know!
