Eton is showing off a few new speakers at CES this week. Eton is actually known for their wireless Bluetooth speakers, with built-in solar panels. This week, they are showing off their Rukus Extreme and Rukus 2 speakers in Las Vegas. The Xtreme is the higher end speaker which is priced at $199. It’s also the better performing model, which features a bass-extending radiator to go along with its two drivers, and a high-capacity 6,600mAh battery inside that can be used to charge your phone or tablet, or even the HP Chromebook 11.
Both speakers Eton annnounced, feature an integrated USB charging port, IPX4 splash-proof design, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC tap-to-pair technology and speakerphone capabilities. They both also have integrated solar panels to charge the speakers in direct sunlight. Of course, as expected, it is a bit slow to charge via solar energy.
Then there’s the more affordable Rukus 2, which is about $99.99, and has a much smaller 1,600mAh battery inside, it also leaves off the bass radiator, which means it’ll be a slightly thinner-sounding speaker. Eton also says that you can charge the Rukus 2 in 5 hours by using the solar panel or 2.5 hours with the old cable and brick.
Both of these models will be shipping in the Spring of this year, Q2. There’s no word on where exactly they’ll be available, but I’m expecting it to be available from Eton’s website and at least Amazon or Best Buy. Hopefully it’s available worldwide next quarter. And as we get more information about the Rukus Extreme and the Rukus 2 we’ll be sure to let everyone know. Having a solar-powered wireless speaker is pretty cool, especially for those that like to spend lots of time at the beach. Here in Michigan, we don’t see much sun, especially this time of year, so the solar-charging wouldn’t help us much.
